Hi all, A couple of us 'Marinators' want to get a 'charity shield' match happening soon (July 2nd?)and you guys were the obvious 'opponents'.... Picture this, fans from 2 rival clubs get together (on the cent coast for the first one) for a friendly (and I mean REALLY FRIENDLY!) footy match. We charge $5 or $10 per player (which goes to charity) and have a raffle, sausage sizzle for more funds to charity etc. The idea we have is to get the press involved, local radio, possibly tv (sbs etc would love a story on how the 'new football' supporters are a new breed etc) Hopefully even get some of the Mariners and Syd FC players to make an appearance? (not to play, just sign autographs, pics opportunities etc) But the first thing is....do you guys wanna get involved?
I have to stress the 'friendly' thing though! (thats why I came to you guys first as I met a few of you in the leagues club up here after you won the CWC and was impressed at the 'banter' we had going) Can you imagine what the press would do if there was ANY agro or biff?....shit, they'd be on us like a pack of wild dogs! So we would BOTH have to monitor 'our own people' and make sure it worked. I also have to stress that we are NOT talking about the world cup here........ unlimited interchange, volunteer refs, great fun rather than great skill!
What do you think?

Sounds great - I'll be in it! Certainly given the atmosphere at the CCLC after the final, I can't see any BWE-SU-style incidents happening...

I'm not an on-the-pitch brawler either so don't stress eh.

Sounds good to me.
I'm a referee in the KDSA, so even if I don't play (injuries and all), I can run around with the whistle.
Would be good fun I reckon.

Fun is what its all about factor, not to mention the good publicity we can all generate for our clubs and the 'beautiful game' I always find myself asking 'what would Johnny Warren think of this?'...and I think the answer would be that he'd be stoked! I'm sure any referees would be greatly appreciated too Factor! so get your whistle cleaned up and ready to rock.

Sounds like fun!
Might also be a good time to point out that a mate from tardistan from the world game forum wants to organise a Sydney v Melbourne fans game before the WCQ, assuming we get past the Solomons.

guys
i had a long chat with mariners management this morning about this and there might be some possibilities:
- the game could be played at central coast stadium after the mariners have a meet and greet BBQ with the community - we would be the highlight afterwards - we tie it in with the marinators logo and website launch at the leagues club (beers afterwards at the club) - we push the charity angle and perhaps make it a day that we make a statement against racism - i'm sure lawrie mckinna would be keen but wouldn't it be great if we could get coached by the respective coaches or assistant coaches
the mariners are having a meeting about it today and as lou said when we organise more details we will let you know
oh, possible tentative date is saturday afternoon july 16
aware that some people play on saturday, but hey, lots play on sunday as well so it is a no win situation
