Newcastle have added 'Jets' to their name and are to be known as Newcastle United Jets. Personally I thought they had a fantastic name without the Jets bit...Perhaps they are trying to differentiate themselves with the UK NUFC, which I think is silly as there is no need to do that! Wot does everyone think?

They should have just stayed NUFC. The Jets is just silly.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooo Plz no, your kidding right? FFS I mean having Auckland 'Kingz' with a Z is bad enough added to that Central Coast 'Mariners'. They dont need to distinguish anything they are here in Aus and them are over their in England. No one over here is going to confuse them. Seriously can you get more cheesey...

Sounds like cr@p. You have to ask the question WHHHYYY??? Maybe due to the RAAF base at Williamtown. I've been there for work and park outside the base and wait for the Jets to fly over. Feel the windows shake

Tell me about it. Theres no issue about confusion and copyrights. If they think this name is catchy ..well to me its just cheese ball examplified.
Football is game of class and should be accompanied by class names.
Why not Athletic or City or FC or something a little less tacky.

How about a more fitting term, Breakers. No, that would be way too sensible, wouldn't it! Or even "Rosebud" or something significant to the history of football in the Hunter. Still I was on the NUFC (AU) forum, and this poor Schalke dude from Germany came on talking about Tomas Hajto being sold. I PM'ed him in German, and he took off quickly smart. Why they called an Australian team a wank name like "United" is beyond. The only 'union' they signified was of the Northern NSW Soccer Federation and the stealthy Newcastle Knights who lured them to Energy Australia Stadium so as for the ground to received funding for being an "all purpose facility". Why not Athletic or City or FC or something a little less tacky. Why not sell cups of bovril and issues of the Newcastle Cronicle out the front of the stadium! Like how more British to you want our league to be! A British 'ethnic' tag in my view is in theory no better than calling them Newcastle Makedonia. What are they uniting; NOTHING! We need a clean slate with this league. No baggage, no ethnic ties or associations to piss anyone off. Even if Jets is very very lame. Why not the Newcastle Hunters FC? Anyone like that? JF

What I dont get is why are there these snazy names like the Mariners, the Glory- extremely American and Cheezy.
Its all about the marketing of the "product". Its so little 8 year olds can represent with a stupid mascot that walks around the grounds. Northern Spirit case is an example with that ridiculous Bart Simpson looking thing or that Parra Power retred that walked around the grounds.
Please tell me where not going to have the same sh*t with SFC-Why do we have to represent football with stupid marketing tools in Australia. Could they not try something different and put a bit of class back into the game.
Have a look at the EPL, Italian Series A or the Spanish Laliga, they dont have f88ken stupid mascots or idiotic American s$$t names.
Just a thought!!
