. Im not 100% behind this policy of signing half a team of south american/african players. We do have alot of talent here and nothing is more significant for the long term future of a club then when people can identify with their local team, meaning local players. I believe the rule in the NSL while it exsisted was that you could only have 3 non AU players as part of your squad, or was it as part of your starting 11? Either way, I imagine they'll be implementing something similar with the new league.

Not that I was ever A fan of the NSL but I think you're more than a bit uninformed. Christian spent much of his childhood in Australia (his brother Max was actually born here) and played for Marconi as a teenager before moving onto greener pastures in Italy. Another thing worth noting is that both Vieri boys apparently still have strong connections with Australia today-Max plays now and then for the Socceroos and Christian owns a fancy looking Italian restaurant down in darling harbour. i know the story about them you goose, thats why i asked the question when did any of them played in the NSL, im very aware of them playing for marconi juniors but nothing to do with playing in the nsl, get your facts right boys

Although I think they've already set guidelines for attaining players and that was not inlcuded. Unless they add it at a later stage, the risk is still there.

I believe that no more than 4 non Oceania players could be in a squad of which only 3 could play in a single match.

Makes me think ... what would a club like Arsenal or many English clubs for that matter do if this type of rule was implemented in England?
They'd have no team!!

Dont forget the 2/3 other full-time proffesional leagues that are also majority English. Also the money draws the Best players so its worth it. But those clubs didnt start that way, they were first core-location based teams and after they developed a big supporter base, they braught in more and more foreigners.

No need for assumptions. Christian Vieri never played senior football in Australia. I would be very interested if you could come up with proof to back your claim.
