Sydney FC have officially signed:
1) Clint Bolton 2) Alvin Ceccoli 3) Sasho Petrovski 4) Robbie Middleby 5) Andrew Packer 6) Steve Laurie
Comments on these players? What do you think, I thought we were going to be a glamour club. Compared to Newcastles signings; Milicic, Nick Carle, Liam Reddy, Craig Deans & Andrew Durante and now possibly Jade North.

Hmmm-as someone who didn't really follow the old NSL i'm not quite sure what to think. I must admit I know nothing about Petrovski, Packer or Middleby except that SBS tells me they were among the better players in the old national league. Apparently Laurie is ex-West ham so that can only be a good thing. I am definately impressed with Bolton's singing-am I right in saying he was arguably the best keeper in the odl NSL? His 'Socceroo' marketability (he has a few caps i believe) is also a bonus. Ceccoli is a player I vaguely remember as being good at Parra power-but again I don't really know enough to comment. All in all these signings all seem reasonable, but I think everyone will agree on hoping that this is merely the start. These look like some players with decent pedigree that will no doubt be of use to Sydney FC in the coming season, but I must say I would be dissapointed if the squad didn't move uphill a little from here (especially in terms of star-power & imports).

Yes that are above average, but Im just thinking that Newcastle have signed alot of the Elite ones in Milicic, Nick Carle, Liam Reddy, Craig Deans & Andrew Durante.
So I guess the next question is who is left?
Elrich is, supposing he doesnt go to england, I think i heard him state he'd like to play for Sydney if the U.K. thing doesnt happen.
Whats goin on with Desptovski? (who else is their that we could get now?)

The answer for Sydney FC, I think, is simple-if there's noone of top pedigree left from the old ranks of the NSL, don't look in the old NSL! Look to the leagues of Asia and South America for quality players willing to play for capped wages, look for Aussies in Europe looking to make a life for themselves back home, look for a marketable marquee and look in the State Leagues for the very best of Under 20 talent. Oh and definately look at Elrich ;D
While the old NSL had some reasonable players that perhaps didn't get some of the credit they deserved, I think it's fair to say that noone wants a league that player-wise is nothing more than NSL the sequel.

Bobby D has signed for Bonnyrigg but I read that he will be going back to Perth when season start comes around.
Ceccoli siging for us is very good for our defence as it means we have an experienced defender to mould the young guys in, ceccoli is also a very good ball runner. Bolton, I couldnt be happier seeing Clint sign for us, great keeper with some awesome reflexes. Petrovski I saw play a few games for Power and he seems all class. I believe he came to us after a stint overseas as well. Middleby, I have heard the name before, he comes to us from the old Newcastle United if im not mistaken ?? I believe he is a winger???
Just looking at Ceccolis career, he plays at clubs where Nick Theodorakopalous coacjes. So this may be a sign of things happening in the means of coach, not Roy Hodgson who is technicial director

The signings are 'average', if we are considering a much higher quality league this time. Bolton is pretty good, no doubt about that.
I think they are trying to sign up the best of a bad bunch. Lets see what the magical wand can do in Sth America/asia.

Middleby and Packer are by no means elite players. They are the sort of players i expected to miss out on a contract now that the league is down to 8 teams. Given the calibre of signings that we are seeing from the other teams, right now Sydney FC is going to struggle big time.
Hopefully we can improve with the rest of our squad.

As do I... We need a coach NOW. Then we can go after players. No good having bought players then a coach as it might not be the players the coach wants..

Ceccoli polayed for AEK Athens 1999-2000 he did nothing and left at the end of the year but keep in mind boys on his debut he scored a muthaf**king ripper from 20 metres out so he can shoot or he could shoot but i aint impressed with any of these signings except for bolton how are u meant to attract crowds with average playas

I think the marquee player will be worth the wait though.
Scott Chipperfield, anyone?

Average signings other than Petrovski and Bolton. Lets hope these boys are bench players.

I think what they are doing is getting a few players to start with, so they aren't left on the back foot like other clubs might be right now...I also think they might be waiting for the January transfer window, perhaps then some players from Africa, Asia, S. America for example can be contracted....14 players left to sign...we can still create a great team....I'm sure SNSW, david lowy et al will not allow us to be a simply ordinary team.

Compared to Newcastles signings; Milicic, Nick Carle, Liam Reddy, Craig Deans & Andrew Durante and now possibly Jade North. The advantage for us is that if Newcastle have the best players they will get poached by Overseas clubs sooner rather then later and that may lead to Newcastle Jets losing the best players and not being able to hold onto their elite and build a team. What player in his right mind is going to stay in Australia? I expect Nick Carle to be OS in two years. Newcastle Jets will have a fight on their hands to keep all the best players in Australia. Newcastle Jets - The Selling Club !
