The problem with Sydney is there is no real sporting culture.
All the citizens of this lonely city only support a team if it winning and people are not inclined to attend games live. They are more the armchair sporting types.
Sydney sports goers don't tend to wear much in the way of colours and sit on their chairs and clap occasionally, and usually leave 10 minutes before the end of the game to go and buy a latte, even if it is a close game.
And Sydney FC will find it much too difficult to get the Croations, Greeks and Italians to work together and play together, and I tip the regular on field brawl, with players from the Sydney FC beating each other up.
And what sort of name is FC anyway?
Talk about zero creativity.
They are my tip for the wooden sthingyers.

I just hope that fanaticall football fans have been so starved of football in Oz as I am, that they would have changed their attitudes somewhat, and hence would be keen to get behind their new club and support it fanatically.....perhaps in a fantasy world that is!

Gawd, how long has this board been going and we have our first blatant troll. I think this is something to be proud of. Already I can smell the fear.
Oh and get stuffed Spec.

I'm personally really looking forward to seeing what comes out of the competition launch!! Particularly the mysterious 4th backer for Sydney FC who will "glamourise" the team!! Any ideas who this might be? As for problems in terms of support in Sydney, I'm not sure it will be as big an issue as the knockers would like to believe, we had 20K turn up to see Australia aka Harry Kewell vs the Solomans. Perhaps with the rumoured 400K salary glamour player in each team this may provide just the hook required to lure in some new supporters? Hope we find out more soon!!

I wouldn't hold my breath!!! Reports today suggest that Ned Zelic would be the 1 marquee player for Sydney and thus the 'face' of Sydney FC....I wouldn't like to see Sydney waste its marquee player on Zelic. While I think he is a great player, why couldn't they get him as a normal squad member and find someone else with a bigger profile and drawing power than Ned?

I tend to agree that Ned Zelic should not be the $400K marquee player but in terms of being a face for the club, maybe not such a bad thing, I would prefer to see an Australian player as the face of the club rather than a foreign player.
has there been any rumours regarding coaching staff?

good point I also think it would be good to have an Aussie as the face of club....Haven't heard nothing yet regarding the coach!

last I heard was that Nick Theodorakopoulos was being considered. Branko Culina is involved with Soccer NSW so maybe he could take the reigns? I think it will be fairly important that the right person is appointed in terms of attractiveness to players to join, that goes for any of the new teams!!

last I heard was that Nick Theodorakopoulos was being considered. He will do for me. Young in Coaching years and respected by the players.

Agreed Robbie.....Historically he has done pretty well at Wollongong and Parramatta during the NSL so I think Nick T would be a good choice.

The Sydney team will be a farce.
Already we are seeing the corruption with Frank Lowy allowing his son to own shares in Sydney FC. How is that for a blatent conflict of interest?
And the mystery 25% shareholder?
Its probably Rene Rivkin.
They will no doubt cheat the salary cap once the A-League gets underway, but that won't matter because they won't win because Sydney has never won anything of importance. Ever.
And Phormic: Shut Up! What would a boy from Parramatta know anyway? They don't even play f**king football out there.
