Those who say that DY is far past his best and is a bad signing for the club because he has not perfomed for either blacburn or BC football clubs should put things in perspective. For starters he is playing for clubs that are battlers where service and suport are poor add to that top qulity defences and any striker is going to have trouble. Sydney fc will not be battlers in this league and sevice and support will be there this = plenty of goals and championships. ;D

One thing the signing of Yorke will bring a lot of is a lot of blow-ins from green eyed A-league and football opponents pretending to be Sydney supporters. The standard of the A_league is going to be high, but comparing it to the elite competition level of one of the top three leagues in the world is absurd. If Dwight Yorke performs out of his skin then the problem will be he will be end up with some massive offers and will be sold off. Then it will be back to square one.

On Behalf of all Perth Glory fans i would like to congratulate you guys on signing Dwight Yorke... It is players like these that are needed in the A-League for it to be put on the map of World Football. Once again Congrats on signing Dwight... Hopefully he himself wil be able to draw crowds to Sydney FC games and hopeully he can scores goals for you aswell but not against the glory of course cheers mate, I was hoping other fans would see that it is not only of benefit to SFC but to the entire A-League. cheers and good luck to Glory

I'm the only one being negative, so what do you mean by "everyone". As I read this thread, there was me being realistic, and a bunch of other blokes lining up to suck Dwight's best asset. That comment is really in poor stature. You have alot of class and its all low

So Jon Stead, who went from Division 3 obscurity at Huddersfield to playing in the Premier League, played almost half as many games as Dwight but scored more goals than Dwight with essentially the same mid-field/service? Funny thing was that Stead worked so much better with Cole in the limited games that they played together than Yorke did with Cole. Hey, I'm happy to eat humble pie if Yorke works out, but I'm thinking that the only people happy about this deal are night club owner's in Darlinghurst and Kings Cross.

now guys listen i think we should all agree on a couple of things here and they are 1)publicity with DY, now yes he has the name but can he prove that he still has what it takes on the pitch? which brings me to my second point which is 2) quality,DY has to live up to his name, yes i think that his signing is good especially for the a-leauge but lets just hope its not just the name thats coming to us but a bit of quality to go with it. cheers

Which is, of course, a completely unfair comparison. Jonathan Stead was a revelation in his first half-season with Rovers, sure, and Dwight Yorke wasn't exactly awe-inspiring during the same period of time, but your suggestion that he can't compete with 'Division 3 obscurity' is ridiculous. Let's take a look at Stead's stats for this season: 23 appearances, 1 goal Hmmmm Now add to the fact that Dwighty has scored 2 goals in that time in a similarly skilled team from less appearances, as well as his amazing overall record, star power and crowd drawing potential, and I know who i'd rather have. Can't believe we have him on board ;D The A-League's first true marquee.

But if you think about it, Rovers have only scored 28 goals in the League so far as compared to 43 at this stage last season. This shows that Rovers haven't been that prolific this season and goals have been a lot harder to come by as opposed to last season with essential the same midfield/service. Look, the fact that when Yorke played at Rovers this season he was terrible and the fact he was a 4th string striker after Robbie Blake at Brum, shows how far he has fallen.
No Rovers fans cried when Yorke left - we were kind of happy that Birmingham were stupid enough to offer us money for him (especially as Brum had bought Martin "Bambi" Taylor last season) - it wasn't his goal record for us that pissed off a majority of Rovers fans, it was his total lack of effort. Andy Cole scored fewer goals last season, but people could see that he could set up players, unlike Yorke.

this isnt the EPL.... DY will be playing in the a-league. a lesser standard by far. Surely he will be one of the top scorers in the league IF, and only IF, he puts the effort into playing for sydney.
DY may not be the player he was when he was at ManU, but he also isnt coming up against the sorts of players he would, week in, week out in the premiership.

Pierre, Walter, the fans, everybody is gonna expect big things from Dwight...
I don't reckon Littbarstard is gonna let him relax, and the rest of the team who are on much less money won't let him relax either, as soon as he looks like slacking off there'll be a million people telling him about it!... all we need is random drug testing... as long as it doesn't extend to da fans hahahahaha

I know that you have had a few knobs purporting to be Melbourne Victory fans trying to stir the pot in regards to the Yorke signing.
Can I say from a legit MVFC fan that we salute what your club has done and share the buzz that the signing has created. SydneyFC, it's board, management and fans deserve all of the plaudits they are receiving and I hope it means that Aussie Stadium is full come August 28.
We still want to beat ya, but on behalf of the rest of the A-League fans .. thanks for making us all walk a foot taller.

I think some people are missing the point of the marquee player. To be honest, its a marketing ploy. If Dwight had scored 15 goals this year he would still be in the PL. If any of you think that we can possibly sign a big name who is in good form to the A-League then you are a little naive. So if you are suggesting that Dwight Yorke is well past his best then your right. But dont sound dissapointed FFS. What do you expect Ronaldinho? Until we can offer more money and until the league gains some credibility this is the level of personel we will be signing. Which to be honest is better than anyone we have ever had here. McMananan, Sheringham, Redondo......Id sign them anyday....(provided they arent fat like Nicola Berti when he arrived)

I also have to applaud the board of SydneyFC, not only did they bring a "marquee" player to SydneyFC but they brought a marquee player to the A-League. It's not just SydneyFC that will take the benefit of DY on our shores but the other nationwide teams who will bring in some extra gate takings from supporters wanting to see DY. Hopefully his performances on field will bring the A-League to a higher level of quality.
