Milicic is staying in malaysia.... No, he was quoted as saying he isnt overly happy with the salary cap and the proposed 21 game season. It is still likely he will come back.

I hope not. Doesn't do much for the image that an ex-druggie is playing in our "professional" league.

Bosnich as your marquee player makes sense, he's around the size of a billboard these days & think of all the advertising space on his jersey!

who knows Olympic suprises everyone with signings...
Milicic is friends with a few of our supporters and will stay in Malaysia because they threw more money at him, for Australia's sake, hopefully he comes and plays with Perth though...they always wanted him...

yeah, I've heard Bosnich is "lining up" to play in the A league - HA. Milicic will be back and so will players like Archie Thompson, Paul Reid, Jay Lucas, Brendan Santalab. It will be a great comp!!....at last

i don't know if these are realistic names but how about having the likes of:
mark robertson? paul reid? les pogliacomi? brett holman? lindsay wilson?
they all have age on their side!!!
the salary cap worries me slightly i think in order to lure quality back from O/S it may take substantial Cash, with absolutely no idea about player wages i would have though the following budget may be considered
5-7 young players U/23s sharing in roughly (300K-400K) i.e. circa 60K each 12-14 more senior/established name players sharing (1.1M-1.2M) i.e. circa 90K each 1 marquee player of $400K
gives a squad of 20
do you think those types of dollars would be in anyway enough to achieve a return to Australia? I have my doubts, think it would be significantly more than what was available in the old NSL and may help stem the tide of players going O/S but not sure how many will return?

squad of 20 is not enough...25 is a descent sized squad...
salary cap will stop big players coming to australia to play....

squad of 20 is not enough...25 is a descent sized squad... I think 20 is enough given the fairly small amount of games being played

then again maybe so..but if a few injuries strike then a team is in trouble...

its a fine line isn't it, have a larger squad and run the risk of spending money on wages for players who don't get a run or go with the minimum squad and get a few injuries, glad i'm just an optimistic fan rather than the Sydney FC accountant! i wouldn't mind seeing some of the top state leaguers joining clubs in their respective states, some of the younger ones for example, also Nwaogazi who was at Wolves last season and is currently at Marconi I think!!! if he can put the ball in the net and isn't too expensive then go for it me thinks. a few tough decisions in the weeks ahead!!

the cap shouldnt be THAT hard to dodgy up. i mean, really, is it that hard to pay a players wife $50,000 for working as a tele-marketer who works from home? or getting a "sponsor" to pay 100k to the player for his image?
if the clubs want to attract big name players, it can be done.
all i am saying is, there is more than one way to pay a player

agreed.....I feel the salary cap will merely bring out the creativity in the club's accountants! Players will still be paid large salaries (obviously not like Europe) but still attractive enough for them to come down to Oz!

It's good for the long tearm prosperity of the club and the league. Although perhaps it could've been raised to a bit more.
