wait wait. Am i tripping out or ae you guys for real. When sydney united/melb knights fans used to light flares didnt everyone have a sook about how 'wrong' it is. Ive seen it on the glory forum and every other aussie soccer forum. But now yous are saying you like flares?? Hold on a second here, who are you refering to as "yous"?? YOU people are so narrow minded, you think that any1 who is supporting Sydney FC must have been bagging out NSL clubs. I know i personally i have always loved flares and have never bagged out Sydney Utd fans for using flares, except for when they throw them which is fuking dangerous and not appropriate in the australian sporting environment as all it does is bring negative press. The Glory boys had about a dozen flares lobbed at them, do you expect them to say nothing and not whinge about it?

Allow me to clarify my stance.
When flares 'came out' at the NSL games, it was usually the starting of trouble, or during trouble, and hence quite often they were thrown at opposition players, fans, etc.[\b] I had a problem with that, as flares don't have to be the starters of trouble, and they should not be thrown at other people, at any time, for obvious reasons.
I've always been of this opinion, and believe that if a flare is let off, then safely held above one's head until it goes out, then properly disposed of, along with about 5-10 (or more) others, with the holders all standing in a row, etc, it can have a brilliant visual effect.[\b]
Yeah sure, it causes a shitload of smoke, and can cause games to be held up by 5 minutes or so due to the smoke having to clear, but I believe it's worth it, if done properly.

The GGarmy might have been in Bay 23, but some (many?) of the old fine, but the drums really killed most of the singing on the night. If thats the sort of support ggarmy wants to provide then great, but that does not mean it should be the style of support SFC gets.

I reckon all of us should hold off on flares. Whether we like it or not ... they'll be the target of negative media attention I think. Flares might be alright for Australian games ... but they'll be a turnoff for families looking towards the A-League for their football fix.
The ASA won't be amused.

As much as I'd like to view the colour and glamour of bright flares on a hot january summer night at the SFS it just doesn't go down well with the general public and mainstream media. I think it represents to those who are mis-informed that lighting a flare in a section of the crowd is causing trouble and the first sign of a flare on TV will be followed by police looking to arrest someone and that is certainly not an image we want broadcasted.

Agreed.. Even if flares were allowed.. You'd end up with some fool hurling them at someone or onto the field.. And then watch as the crowds disappear.. This is the last chance.. If that means certain things have to be toned down for the good of the game (not including singing and the like) then unfortunetley due to the media, it will have to be toned down.

agreed....flares will probably be banned anyway...plus the person who lights one up might not mean to harm anyone...but the media or the majority of the australian public dont take to kindly of it...leave em at home...
