And the media will do a full 2 pages on how soccer ruffians have been acting up. true maybe not, but they will sell it and influence allot of people. like it always is done. quote] You are completely ignoring the points we are making. Firstly there were 4 flares lit at the Turkey match, 7 flares lit at the Solomons match and litres of beer thrown, yet not one negative report from the press. Why is this? Because we had a designatead supporters area! The press will only start making a big deal of it if people complain, and ppl wont complain if only people who are into that kind of support are in the supporters area!! FFS, its quite simple really!

Well in that case i sede the point and hope and pray you are right.. I really am excited about this and want to be able to get into the game. But I dont want it to be like it used to... Not exactly fond of seeing other national flags at an Australian competition (excluding the kiwis of course). Oh before I get shouts of racist that includes old blighty as well. We are australian not english or any other country.
Anyway, how long till august gets here?

Not only did I nearly die of asphixiation due to them, I had Old Bill try to arrest me for something I didn't do at the end of the match. I actually found them fine, the fact that they were theatrical flares meant they werent toxic smelling at all compared to the standard safety flare.

You need tougher lungs mate... haha What did the O.B try to arrest you for??? Lighting the things. Apparently somebody in the bay to my right told the coppers that I had lit em. You weren't too near em when they went off Ned. They went off right under the seat in front of me. Waving my big flag, I couldn't exactly move away from them in a hurry either. Next time I'll wear my scarf over my mouth when you let one of them rip! (And I ain't talking farts here.) JF

The flares looked great at the Australia game. They would be great to let off at all Sydney FC games but I don't think that will go down too well with security. Also after a while they would probably be able to suss out who is letting them off each week. I think just leaving them for special occasions such as finals games and big games like that would be ok though?

ParraPower is that you Scott?? Yeah I agree on the aspect of not letting flares off at the games everyweek, but beer thrwoing shouldnt be a problem if we keep it in the area where we are, and no families or people who may have a problem with this. At Parra Stadium we had a problem with beer throwing, but they are nazis there, if we are granted a special section all should be well

The best thing about the Shed in Perth is that it is over 18s only and general admission.
That way, you don't need to worry about upsetting the kiddies or people that have paid a lot of money for a good seat.
As a result, we could swear our guts out, throw piss over each other whenever we scored, abuse the opposition goalie and encourage the girls to get their tits out. All great fun and no complaints.
They definately need to do something similar at SFS, ie a designated roudy section that the kiddies can't get into.
One of the hardest things I found when moving to Sydney and watching Glory games over here was trying to sing the same songs as in the Shed, while standing next to a family all sitting on their picnic blanket next to me giving me dagger looks.
I think flares are out because (a) they are symbolic of European football hoodlums and that's the approach the media would take with them and (b) the venues will consider them OH&S violations.

I reckon its not a good idea to get flares involved so early in the league. Simple becuase the ASA are trying to get families going to soccer matches. Flares would really be the opposite of an incentive to families.
But once we have good crowds going, stadium seating should be seperated so that supporters who like flares, banners etc etc can be seated at a distance to the families. That way none of the groups will be affected by another.
Other then that I hope we can get entire stadiums to sing some original Sydney FC songs.

media attention isnt given for the flares at australia games because its australia playing. If it was some ethnic team then they would make up big stories to make them look bad. Its all propaganda.

I see both sides of the argument as you can get pretty herrific burns from em if they get you but there is something about them that is amazing
Look at a Madrid/ Barca games-60+ psycho fans, flares etc amazing
They really enliven at atmosphere. The other great thing about em is that there illegal. Not that I am in any way trying to suggest everyone should go into the stadium and cause a riot/be completely anti-social but there a soft way of breaking the rules. Its like chanting Croats out Croats out at a old NSL game. I mean you shouldnt do it-I personally dont support the anti-ethnic ideology but its all about creating a vibe and brotherhood-Now im sounding like im from a right sided political movement.
Bottom line-Every sporting club needs a hardcore supporter base-I agree that they are great for special occasions and create an amazing intensity to a game.
As long as no one gets injured and there away from families, oldies etc go for it-

PFFT Blues, beer being thrown at you is completely harmless (if it's in plastic cups of course!) I copped quite a few when I decided to venture up into the Mac Terrace one night at a Spirit match (after having said a few inflammatory things on messageboards). I copped a few punches as well, but I realise I deserved it, and I've lived to tell the tale. Also I've copped beer and spirits from JF and other Bobstanders many times in the Bobstand as well, and I'm still here, eating, sleeping and shitting all the same. So if Sydney FC score- throw your beers in the air! And if Glory score- I'll come and throw one at you guys! ;D As for flares- they need to be regulated. I.E- allow them in, but have sand buckets for when they go out, safety precautions in place in case of emergencies, and also emphasise strongly that they're NOT to be thrown. Geez I'm contributing a lot here for someone that doesn't want to be involved with the club!
