Fifa Carrot Not So Juicy, Clubs to share 1.25 million.
Daily Telegraphy, Thursday, May 26, 2005.
written by James Hooper.
The 1.25 million carrot being dangled in front of Sydney FC to qaulify for the FIFA World Club Championship in Japan this December is a financial mirage.
The Truth is Sydney FC will only see 500,000, or 40 per cent cut of the Prize money, provided they can moneuvre the minefield of the Tahiti qaulifying tournament starting Monday.
In a deal done before the A-leauge started, the rest of the 750,000 loot will be divided up between the seven rival clubs and Football Federation Australia.
Is it just me or is giving away a lazy $100000 to rival clubs and 50,000 to FFA a bit like scoring an own goal? That's soccer.

Old news and from what I gather, true.
Doesn't seem like much money to be splitting up in between 7 clubs AND the FFA. Will only pay for a happy meal for all the team.

Yeah Its old news. We all thought it was a good idea that the money would be spread about the rest of the clubs. The real carrot in all this is that Aussie PLayers get to play against some of the best in the world. Including Liverpool! Imagine that!

Old and good idea. For Sydney the real carrot is just the extra competitive play they get before the A-league starts. Sydney FC are getting pretty battle hardened by now. Dubai - a really tough Club Championship campaign from one side of Australia to the other and back again in one week - now a tournament in tahiti playing with coconuts. It must be a dream for Litti to get so much time and experience for his players as a group.

That article pissed me off, everyone should have known that the money was going to be split, the knowledge has been around for ages but it's rags like the tele that perpetuated the myth that it was a million dollar pay day for the winner because they do not check their facts in the first place. Then they claim it is an FFA mirage.
