MARINERS ANNOUNCE EXCITING ORGANISATIONAL CHANGES
Central Coast Mariners
Monday 30 May 2005
Central Coast Mariners Football Club is pleased to announce some significant organisational changes to further enhance the development of the emerging club.
The key changes include Mr. Ian Kiernan who has been acting as chairman of the club through its formative months, taking up the prestigious position as inaugural President of the club.
Lyall Gorman who has been filling the role of CEO will move into the role of Executive Chairman. This will allow Mr. Gorman to focus at a more strategic, developmental and planning level and to continue to enhance and consolidate relationships with key stakeholders, the community, local and broader government.
Former Executive Director of the New South Wales Rugby Union Mr. John McKay has accepted the role of General Manager and will be responsible for the operational business of the club. Mr. McKay led the financial and organizational rebuilding of the NSW Rugby Union and was instrumental in laying the platform for the success the Waratahs currently enjoy.
Central Coast Mariners newly appointed Executive Chairman, Lyall Gorman, said that "Mr. McKay brings tremendous experience and a high level of expertise to this crucial operational role and the fact that he is also a local resident of the Central Coast is a tremendous boost to the overall structure of the Mariners."
"I look forward to working closely with John to consolidate the excellent start the club has had this year and to develop the Mariners into a national force both on and off the field in the newly created Hyundai A-League."
Football Federation Australia Head of Operations Mr. Matt Carroll fully endorsed the changes.
"The combination of Kiernan, Gorman and McKay provides a strong off field team for the Mariners to progress their plans," said Mr. Carroll.
"After the success of the team in the club world championship qualifying tournament, the Mariners are now in a position to capitalise on this opportunity and the new structure will allow that to occur."
