Hi Pierre. Listen mate. We're all Sydney FC fans. We can't see OUR team on free to air. What chance do you think there is of us voting to get the EPL up there first? Do you think we just might want local football on there instead? Hmmm? You do realise that SBS can't afford the rights don't you? Go away. Stop spamming our forum.

EPL is overexposed as it is. I agree with Phormic, lets see A-league on FTA first!

There can always be a petition made for that.
But it is different with EPL.

Foxtel OWN the rights to the EPL. They used to licence the rights to SBS. A new deal was offered. SBS couldn't afford it. Not on SBS anymore. Simple.
The government has an anti-siphoning list of sporting events that must be on free-to-air TV by law. The EPL isn't one of them because the list contains events that are "culturally significant" in a sporting sense to this nation.
Call me crazy but I somehow feel that local football has slightly more "cultural significance" to this nation than does the EPL.

No, they can afford em, Fox Sports are just greedy I have no idea what that means, SBS had the same opportunity as Fox Sports to purchase the Australian EPL rights. Fox Sports made a bid larger than SBS's and so they got the rights, since Fox Sports is a PAY channel they bid for exclusive rights to ensure that they are the sole source of EPL in Australia. Either SBS couldn't afford, or couldn't justify, beating Fox Sports bid. End of story. How that makes Fox Sports greedy I don't know, they are a business and they make bids for broadcast rights based on their valuation of them, greed has nothing to do with it. The petition is unrealistic, naieve and pointless, oh boo-hoo, thousands of Aussies who won't pay for something that they want , expect the people who have it to give them some for free. I want a friggin Masarati, lets start a petition to have Masarati lend me and everyone else who wants one, their best model free of charge on Sundays. Sounds stupid, doesn't it, well thats essentially what the petition is saying and has about the same chance of success.

how can you market a game properly when not everyone has access to it? the ffa should have made sure a highlights package was available for free to air. let foxtel have the full games coverage and atleast let us plebs see some decent highlights!!
