The Central Coast Mariners are delighted with Football Federation Australia's (FFA) decision to move the final of the Club World Championship qualifying series originally scheduled for Sunday at Adelaide’s Hindmarsh Stadium to Central Coast Stadium.
The decision was made today by FFA, after two New South Wales sides, Sydney FC and the Central Coast Mariners, qualified for the final last night.
The final is now scheduled for 3.00pm, this Sunday afternoon (May 15) at Central Coast Stadium.
“We must give credit to the FFA for their vision in moving Sunday’s match to Central Coast Stadium,” said Central Coast Mariners Chief Executive Officer Lyall Gorman.
“They now have given themselves the greatest possibility of showcasing the best of the Hyundai A-League to the biggest possible audience.
“We also applaud the efforts of our supporters, the Marinators, and those from Sydney FC in voicing their opinions to the national body.
“We’re sure there’ll be a great atmosphere at Central Coast Stadium on Sunday, to see the blue-collar team of the Hyundai A-League take on the aristocrats!”<br>
The Central Coast Mariners qualified for the final after defeating local rivals the Newcastle United Jets 4-2 in a penalty shootout on Saturday, before downing Adelaide United 4-0 last night.
Sydney FC trounced the Queensland Roar 3-0 in their opening game, before travelling to Perth yesterday to defeat the Glory 2-1.
The winner of the final will earn the right to compete in the Oceania Qualifying Tournament for the FIFA Club World Championship which commences in Tahiti later this month.
The winner of that tournament will then compete at the FIFA Club World Championship to be held in Tokyo, Japan from 11 December - 18 December alongside representatives of the five other FIFA confederations.
There will be a minimum appearance fee of $US1 million for each of the six representatives that will compete in the 2005 FIFA Club World Championship in Japan in December.
People that have already purchased tickets for the final in Adelaide have commenced being contacted by Venue Tix to arrange refunds. Those people are also encouraged to contact Venue Tix directly on 08 8225 8888 to arrange refunds.
