Steve McManaman
What do you guys think?
Here is my take on it:
Position Midfielder Date of Birth Friday 11th February 1972 Place of Birth (Liverpool) England
Has played for both Liverpool and Real Madrid which could be a good draw card for crowds. Has also played for England. He could play right midfield or centre midfield for Sydney FC. The disadvantage is that he will be 35 next year.
Opinions ?
EDIT: This is an overseass suggestion, preferably I'd like an aussie but the way SydneyFC is talking atm, they are looking abroad.

nah we could get some one better...not as popular but younger and wont need a walking stick to sprint down the line thats the impression sydneyfc are giving off. we know they have the money behind them to sign a big name player, so why settle for someone who wont perform on the field. we dont need to sign someone in the prime, just someone who can offer the club something other than his past glory.

if lowy wanted he could say here's a million buy a player at his peek in england or italy....but he wont so im just dreaming the money spent on a marquee player has to be justified. ie. will he win games, or will he bring the public to the games. if the answer is no to both, then its pointless to sign.

i think in order to find a marquee player .. we need to find someone with experience in the game ... some one who is still playing ... someone who can produce on and off the field ... someone who people would come to watch ... we need our marquee player to be a household name now and when he stats to play for sydney .... The idea of petit has come up a few times in my opinion i would be great for him to come i mean he has played for Arsenal, Chelsea etc ... however he has been out of the game for about 1 - 2 years ... I think the chairman and his team are doing the right thing in looking for someone in europe, south america, america ie abroad who is still playing yet coming to the end of his contract at that particular club, unlike newcastle who sign milicic as there marquee player ... Sydney did it with zdrillic why can they not do it with the marquee player ... A South American player would be great ... they will not have much trouble adjusting to the australian lifestyle and it will bring a new spark to the game ....
Talking about the coach ... Mr Bugno said that they will be going for a foreign coach ... how good would it be with a foreign coach he might want to bring players with him and again that might be great for the game ... I think we have a very clever Chairman and a very clever scout team ...
If things continue to go lke this i can not wait for the season to start

The above sounds like Emerton. If I could spash some cash at a player to bring back it would be him. Maybe if Blackburn got relegated he would come but even then I think he would choose Europe over home.
