I know its still early days, very early days, but say withing the next 5 years the ASA have said they would like to expand the league. So my question is where would be most viable to go.
Canberra is probably the most enticing of all areas. It has a good sized population and the AIS will also provide for some talented youth players for a club their.
Wolongong is also an interesting prospect, but Im not to sure. Apparently some investors wanted to make a team for Townsville (in north queensland), they are quite sports orientated over their, but if theres potential for football is something of a worry.

If we involved Tasmania then it would truly be a national sport. The problem is that it hasn't been tried and tested. I don't think Tasmanian's give much hoot about football anyway.
If it was too expand, I would put a team in Penrith. It will capture the nepean/blue mountains region, it could capture people as West as Bathurst and it could also capture those from Sydney metro. Penrith is a very family community area so alot of young boys play football in junior years.
It has a decent stadium and the federal government is planning to upgrade it, there is no sport to follow in the off-season when the panthers are not playing and it's accessible from the M4 and M7.

Yeah, Penrith is another good spot! Getting the nepean people into the club shouldnt be to much of a problem. Although in the blue mountains AFL really dominates all other codes.
Perhaps basing it in Bathurst would be an interesting prospect.

I wouldn't expand to any more than 12. Canberra, Nth Queensland, another Melbourne team and possibly even something in the NSW riverina.... a big Rugby League area but there are still some supporters out there.

I work with people who live in the Mountains and AwFuL is rather down the pecking order, according to them. Hmm, well I know a few people who live their and I got the impression AFL is the most popular in the mountains. Neither of us live there, but you may be right. Anyhow if that is the case then I'm interested to know what are the number 1 and 2 sports over their from what you've gathered? If theres scope in the mountains then anywhere in that area will be interesting. But the more I think about Bathurst is looking more and more intriguing. Gold Coast as mentioned above would be great if we could get a club set up there. But that will depend on the success of the Queensland Lions.
