Why argue with them, just for fun ? I took a look at that link, theres not much point arguing with people who are so narrow minded that even if you poke them with a stick they will say they felt nothing. Apart from that IMO that entire arguement is daft, many people support more then one sport. And will go to games from both codes. I mean I love soccer but I like rugby union to, I mean I wouldnt go to a local game but I wouldnt mind a Super-12 game. So its the same with alot of people. No point in creating rifts between people, let each one support what they want. Like I said people follow more then one sport at a time so those types of arguements are silly. Plus theres a lot of core football supporters in Australia anyway. They just want a quality product with no string attatched which is what the John O'neil has achieved so it wil succeed.

So it's ok for you to give shit on other sites, but not ok for people to do the same here ?
You say how the A-League will rock on the AFL sites, and others come here and say how the NSWPL will kick a.ss..... What's the difference ?

Just read that thread...some interesting reading..actually it was quite hillarious!!! Fans of other codes must feel quite threatened by football in Oz if they try to make such a point against it! Better to say nothing to it and let them keep arguing amongst themselves!

I don't see any point in going onto other sites and telling them essentially that they made a bad choice in liking what they like. As mentioned, there are some of us who follow a few codes. I like a lot of different sports. I also like many types of food. I enjoy listening to different genres of music. I'm perfectly within my rights to do so, and not have to choose ONE. Actually it's funny. I spend plenty of time defending all the sports I like from attacks by supporters of other sports, most of which I ALSO like!

It really was a one off thing to post a few messages on that site. I don't plan on continuing it. I agree with you it's practically a pointly exercises. I was originally lettting off some steam. The purpose was to get others talking/worrying/ thinking about Sydney FC. I've noticed the thread is pretty big. But not as big as the 17 page thread on the 'big footy'website here. Seems like Melbourne has plenty of football punters. www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=140711&page=17&pp=15Stratos, I agree with you, people should voice their opinion about state league etc. No worries from me. I, or others may/may not agree but I think its good to generate a discussion on these issues.

I think you'll probably find that as the A-League launches and a few games/rounds go by, anyone on all those other forums who share the common interest in the league or team will start up more conversations. The problem now is that the start of the new league is so far away - there's really only people enthusiastically confident despite the lack of information, people who are bagging the concept out without giving it a go, and those who are cautiously optimistic, with a "wait and see" attitude. I'm one of those, as you can guess...

But you'd be surprised that many people are already soccer fans on RWO. And that alot of the respones you have received have actually been quite positive. A lot of swans supporters were also fans of Northern Spirit. I'm not expecting that to change here with Sydney FC. Remember, the more stick you give people on RWO, the more prospective supporters you alienate. Swans fans are 18% more likely to folow other sports than those who follow other codes. They had to be open-minded enough to take to supporting AFL in Sydney in any case. Think about it bud! JF

pfft bollocks to the hacks at the swans. as the old song goes 'where were you when you were nuts? !'. useless hacks, only support there team when they are winning. arnt u gonna support glory JF? you change your mind quite a lot? how many nsl teams did u go for? ah, Mr Puleo is here I see. Oh joy As you and I both know, I WAS there when things were shit. To those who are not in the know, I used to follow the Newcastle Breakers from 92-94. I'd catch the train up from Hornsby and come home on the 1140 from Broadie. They were good days, even if the Breakers were pish. To be honest I got involved, as I knew the gang who followed the Newcastle Knights and could hang out with them without giving up my then-support for the Canberra Raiders. and check out a new sport. Sadly the Breakers went under, so I kinda stopped going to the NSL at all. I then went to Italy (the Ultras paradise) in 94, so came back thinking I might have a look at Marconi and see if can get some of that going. I met a guy called James, who had been living in Pescara, who was wanting the same thing. We went to Marconi matches. In the early days they were OK. But after a while you got to the point of thinking "why am I here?". I was often scathing of the way the club was run at times. I knew there was no future in a club like Marconi with the attitude people held towards the football at the time at that place. A new club from Sydney's North came about. It stood for everything I believed in. I made the difficult decision to change to Northern Spirit. Indeed it was Chris Dunkerly (moderator of the Mariners forum) who along with me and Tancredopoulos houded the club to sdet aside the Bob Stand as a singing terrace. I could very well have stayed folowing Marconi. I could have very well given up the game after the Breakers went under. But i didn't. Like a few on this forum, I am still kinda wanting against hope that Spirit will come back. And we will get our 18000 crowds back. But let's face it, we were lucky to last the end of the year. Pitthingyer left a pretty nasty taste in many our our mouths. I'm still kinda disillusioned in a way. But at the same time I want to game to go forward. The A League is the best product Australian soccer has ever done to do that. I want to be there abouts when Australian soccer does reach its potential. I want to be at not only Deutschland 2005 but hopefully the Confed Cup next year. JF

Stratos my old buddy! haha Finally you come up with a valid point! Haven't heard from you in a while. (Eccentric from Gloryboys ;D). It is a bit silly the mods of this forum deleting negativity posted by NSWPL fans towards Sydney FC, yet then turning around and having a go at the AFL mob, a small percentage of whom may eventually get involved in the new A-League. JF You're one crazy, uncanny man! How on earth you manage to follow the Swans all over Australia, Sydney Kings, and then possibly the Socceroos to both the Confeds and the world cup is beyond me! At this stage I'd be absolutely ecstatic to make it to the world cup- it's a reasonable possibility for me at this stage, but I can't commit just yet. I'd love to see my country play in a world cup- especially the first as a majority "professional" team. cmon the Glory! Neil.

This has been the reaction to the FA's decision on the AFL messageboard Bigfooty.com. I am actually quite shocked at how positive the reaction has been. www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=141939&goto=newpostIt augurs well for the new A League. We obviously have more hidden fans in AFL football circles of the sport than in obvious to the naked eye. I think the game of football gained a lot of respect in finally standing up fort itself. Even if I am the biggest AFL fan out there, I'm more than happy about this. JF
