Ok, so i'm sure everyone knows the situation Sydney FC are in as far as player recruitment goes. So far we have-
5 'stock' signings (ex-NSL blokes)
A talented, impressive Goalkeeper not well known outside Australian soccer's fan circle
A reasonably well known ex-Socceroo. Talented but no galactico.
4 young guys who will most likely turn out well but at the moment remain a mystery.
Apparently Mark Rudan-the best defender in the Malaysian league. Probably a good player but, again, few have heard of him.
While there are some good signings within this lot (Corica, Bolton, and the young guys especially), surely none of us are Naive enough to believe that, at the moment at least, they could be classified as 'crowd pullers'. Now, Sydney FC are apparently a 'glamour club'. The Lowies-shrewd buisnessman who aren't stupid are on board. And this got me thinking-None of the players Sydney have signed so far are likely to be earning a huge wage. With 12 players down and 8 spots left, there's probly still plenty of room left in the salary cap. Therefore are Sydney saving the best (well-known lads like Colosimo, Elich, some imports or a marquee?) till last?
Or is all this talk of a glamour club nonsense with SydneyFC likely to be a NSL rehash (albeit a glitzy, high grade NSL rehash)?

FFS, of course they are. Overseas players won't be signed until the January transfer window, or probably even later. Whatever overseas players we get are playing now and, let's face it, looking around for other contracts, so let's not kid ourselves and think they'll commit at this early stage.
We'll get a few "big" names but it's not going to happen when the Northern Hemisphere's season is not even half way through.

The salary cap (set at $1.5M) dosen't allow for signing overseas players. Unless clubs find a way around it I don't really expect any "big" signings..
Then again if teams do find ways to beat the salary cap.. what's the point of having it?
Just scrap it !! It isn't right for football in any case.

I think you'll find that the one "marquee player" allowed is not included in the $1.5 million salary cap.

That's correct & granted. However you may heard that some clubs will not be purchasing a "marquee player".

Oh pls save the drama for later . On the point of us saving the best for last, I think that will turn true also we will probably have a really good coach I mean if Crooky is second choice...

Are we getting carried away with expectations The GLAMOUR Club Wasn't that the term used by Tom Doumanis who has nothing to do with Sydney FC ... whilst everyone in the media and on this site uses the term, thanks to Doumanis, I haven't heard anyone from Sydney FC or the ASA use it ... Sydney FC looks competitive, certainly no worse than any other club ... and with a $1.5m salary cap what do you expect ! Give them a go and lets get the team on the park before we judge

A wise choice, possibly they could lure him on a short term incentive-based contract. Turning down Okon also indicates that the people out there doing the scouting know what it takes to create a winning team, not a team that would show just flashes of former glory. Also, possibly this has something to do with an article i read on tribalfootball.com. It said that one club had scouts on both the European and Sth American continents. Maybe that is Sydney FC?
