Sydney FC Invests in the Future
The Joeys’ captain at the 2003 FIFA Under 17 World Cup finals, Jacob Timpano, heads a list of four of Australia’s most promising youth internationals signed by Sydney FC for the inaugural Hyundai A-League season in 2005-06.
“This is a major part of our investment in the future of Australian soccer,” said the Sydney FC chairman, Mr Walter Bugno.
“It’s also measure of our commitment to the overall development of the game that we have signed four youth players in a squad of 20. We will develop these players not only to be successful for Sydney FC, but for our national teams as well.”<br>
The four players have all represented Australia in under 17 or under 20 international football. They are:
Jacob Timpano, 18 yo
Mark Milligan, 19 yo
Wade Oostendorp, 16 yo
Justin Pasfield, 19 yo
Timpano is a central defender who captained the Australian team at the FIFA Under 17 World Cup finals in Finland last year. He played over 30 National Soccer League matches with the Wollongong Wolves and is still with the Illawarra club in the NSW Premier League.
Jacob is tipped to play a leading role in the Young Socceroos campaign for the FIFA Under 20 World Youth Cup in the Netherlands next year. He was a product of the NSW Institute of Sport.
Mark Milligan is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Sport and a member of the Young Socceroos squad preparing for the FIFA Under 20 World Youth Cup campaign. The full back played for the Northern Spirit in the NSL and now plays for Blacktown City Demons in the NSW Premier League.
Wade Oostendorp is considered by many judges to be the hottest prospect in his age group after dazzling performances in the middle of defence at the 2004 Qantas National Talent Identification Championships. Wade has trials at the leading Dutch club Ajax Amsterdam last month, but has decided to develop with Sydney FC before considering an overseas career. He is currently on tour in North America with the Joeys.
Justin Pasfield is a goalkeeping graduate of the Australian Institute of Sport and a product of Balgownie Rangers in the Illawarra. Justin toured South America with the Young Socceroos this year and recently had a taste of European football with Bray Wanderers in the Republic of Ireland.
Sydney FC has now signed a total of 11 players.
