FANS will have their first chance to see a new-look Adelaide United in a four-team tournament at Hindmarsh Stadium in February.
The tournament will involve three other A-League teams with Sydney FC confirmed as one of the participants.
The round-robin event will be played between February 18 and 25 with the top two sides meeting in the final.
Full details of the tournament will be released after the Australian Soccer Association officially sanctions the event which is expected to be the first to involve teams from the A-League.
The tournament will be an important warm-up for the competition in June to decide which A-League team qualifies to represent Australia in the Oceania qualifiers for the World Club championship.
The Hyundai A-League is scheduled to kick off in August 5.
United coach John Kosmina is expected to use the February event as a trial for several prospects.
Kosmina has signed 12 players and will add eight more players, including three under 20 players, to finalise his 20-man squad.
Kosmina has five Premier League players training with his squad, Russell Waller, Adam Van Domelle, Robert Cornthwaite (Enfield), Michael Matricianni (Campbelltown), Jason Spagnuolo (MetroStars) and Sarantis Parissos (Olympic).
While some of United's signings could come from this group, Kosmina is determined to bring at least three experienced players to Adelaide.
Former Wollongong goalkeeper Daniel Beltrame is set to return to Adelaide and former SA stars Travis Dodd and Joel Porter, who are playing in Europe, are also on Kosmina's wish list. Dodd played for his Greek club, Panionios, in the UEFA Cup on Wednesday and is in line for the next match against England's Newcastle United.
United could also be in the market for a "big name", provided the price is right and he fits in with Kosmina's vision.
"We are casting our net as wide as possible," he said. "We are not looking for a marquee player but someone who can make a significant difference and who will benefit the younger players."
Several A-League clubs have been active in signing players, although the Kingz, Melbourne Victory and Queensland Lions have yet to make official signings.
