Corica scores starting berth AAP
Sydney FC's last-minute goal hero Steve Corica has been rewarded with a starting position in his team's second match at the FIFA World Club Championship qualifiers.
The team plays against Papua New Guinea's Sobou FC in Tahiti on Friday night.
Corica will make his run on debut after starting all three of the Australian qualifiers on the bench and going on as a substitute to score the winning goal in the 92nd minute in the 3-2 win over Auckland City on Wednesday.
"I am looking forward to starting a game for Sydney FC for the first time," Corica said. "I have been happy to be playing in a winning side coming off the bench but it will be nice to start a match and hopefully get 90 minutes under my belt."
Corica's inclusion is one of two changes coach Pierre Littbarski has made to the side that defeated the New Zealand champions, with Robbie Middleby also making his run on debut for the club.
Midfielder Terry McFlynn has been rested and defender Mark Rudan will miss the match after aggravating his hamstring injury.
Socceroo striker David Zdrilic will assume the captaincy in Rudan's absence.
Sobou FC goes into the match on the back of a 5-1 loss to AS Pirae in the second match of Wednesday night's double header.
Littbarski has drilled into the squad the need to be focused after watching the way Auckland City lifted against Sydney FC.
