www3.sbs.com.au/home/index.php3?id=51981Sydney FC chairman Walter Bugno has declared that his club will not be appointing Roy Hodgson as its first coach but did reveal that his club had been swamped by interested parties. "He is off our list. Absolutely," Bugno told the Sunday Telegraph in reference to former Inter Milan and Blackburn manager Hodgson - who is now in charge of Norway club Viking Stavanger. "We are not after a figurehead," he added. "We want someone on the park, wearing a tracksuit and directing proceedings." However, Hodgson's link to the A-League's lone Sydney franchise has had a positive effect. "The one thing Roy Hodgson did was alert the international soccer world we were in the market for a coach," Bugno explained. "We have been receiving e-mails from coaches from traditional football countries to obscure lands. The big drawcard for them [coaches] is the chance to take an Australia club to the World Club Championship." Earlier this week, Sydney FC announced the signing of its first six players. Those being goalkeeper Clint Bolton, defenders Alvin Ceccoli and Steve Laurie, midfielder Andrew Packer, winger Robbie Middleby and striker Saso Petrovski. Four players that previously played in Sydney in the National Soccer League have elected to try their luck a little further north with Ante Milicic and Nick Carle joining Newcastle while Tommy Pondeljak and import Andre Gumprecht have been snapped up by Central Coast.
