its mainly the older generation that feel left out...forgotton supporters almost...
every old greek wog that i have spoken to says that they wont step foot near sydfc or the apl....their reason? all seams to be the same...they feel that after 30 years they have been left out...they say that they went in the rain in the heat and poured there money and hearts into it...all for nothing , so you can understand their disapointment...
the solution....there isnt one...unfortunatley we all know how stubborn they could be...all 5000 of them ( at the most )
Sydney's population is 3.9 million people .....
im sure without sounding harsh that we can start with the rest of the 3 , 895, 000 people and they might follow later...

If Spirit can get 23000 for their 1st home game at NSO then I'm sure that with no other team in Sydney, all of us working together on people who have held off over the years because of the 'ethnic identification' thing,as well as people who used to be regulars at Syd United,Olympic,Marconi,Spirit etc working on temporarily disillusioned/disaffected fans of those clubs, a drought of senior football for over 12 months all equals 42000 first game and thus massive media interest.

No, Alaric, it isn't that easy. The only reason Spirit got so many in the first year was because of the English "barmy army" who were over here watching the cricket. The Spirit was marketed at them, and it was hoped that people would follow their example and follow the Spirit week in week out. The 2nd year was a disaster on the field for the Spirit, the English followed their cricketers home, and the rest of Sydney thought "what the f**k....it's just another NSL club that'll die in the ass eventually, why support them?".....and the rest is history.
A club needs to be PROPERLY MARKETED to the people of Sydney. Not just "We have 5 ex-Sydney clubs, who had about 5,000 fans each, hundreds of thousands of kids playing the game, let's put in a club and see what happens....we'll tell the public big things are gonna happen (which we very well know may not), charge their kids and them if they play a lot extra to play the game, and charge $50 a ticket". That's called "hail mary", and it hasn't worked any time in the past 30 years.
I'm with the old "Wog fathers" on this one. (Of which there are a lot more than 5,000 Greek Bulldog). Those "Wog fathers" are the very people who could put money into the game if they have small businesses etc, but obviously won't, because of what they have experienced in the past.

What's an australian?
By the way, it was 19000 at spirits first game.
This league won't be crap, don't worry about that. It will have mass appeal, and will be successful. I have faith in the boys at the top on this one. Most people don't realise the calibre on the AFA's board.

An australian is a very unique species. They enjoy beer and more varieties of sport than any other. They are of multi colours and backgrounds. BUT as long as they support the Green and Gold they are Australian.

I'll take off my trolling hat for a moment and say I hope ALL football fans get behind the A-League, regardless of which ethnic background they hail from.
This is Aussie football's new lease of life. It is OUR CHANCE to get behind broadbased clubs who play for everyone! If the A-League earns the support of every football fan in this country I see no reason why it cannot expand and take Aussie football to new unchartered heights.

Yes exactly, all this boo-hooing is reminiscent of when this new league was proposed. And the majority of people realised that it was just other people claiming gloom and doom becuase of their own selfish reasons.
The NSL was in shambles a poor excuse for a league. This new league is a breath of fresh air. Most probably many people will support it and even if the 'old supporters' dont come then to be realistic its a very small percentage of the soccer-interested public in Australia. But for the most part of it I think the majority of 'old supporters' will come and embrace this new era of footbal in Australia.
