I honestly don't know.
I guess it'll be people like myself who weren't attached to an ethnic NSL club.
Might be able to scrape together 5000 people.

do all your friends and family go to Olympic games?
Who's to say that your narrow minded family and friends are the general consensus of ethnics. They don't speak for me.

You're the exact reason why the A-League may fail. The attitude of 'its not going to work' is absolutely f**ked. If you go into anything with that attitude, then it will fail.
So get behind it and stop being such a thingy.

Ok heres my take on this whole situation...
I am a long term olmypic fan and i think i can speak for most of us in saying that we have a general feeling of betrayal in what has happened to our club with regards to the APL. 3 years ago we made the bold move down to Shark Park to de-ethnicise the team, and we did to a great degree - aussie coach, no greek players in the team, etc etc. One would have imagined that the sporting public would have got behind olympic, and unfortunately they did not.
All of a sudden 3 years down the track us "ethnics" (and i use that term loosely, cause any english/scottish/irish fans are also ethnic in my view) are being given as the reason for the downfall of football in this country.
So thats the sense of betrayal summed up.
From that point, myself and many others have 2 options:
1) Boycott the APL and feel vindicated that those people that didnt support us for all those years are now feeling our pain and frustration, and wondering why the people wont turn up - when the product is reasonably good. (few could argue in our title season with Milicic, Pondeljak, Ishida etc that we played poorly)
OR
2) Get behind the APL, and realise that the greater enemy in the situation of football in australia is not those fans who didnt support olympic over the years, but the ESTABLISHMENT of media and broadcasting in this country that have continued to make it their mission to keep football down in this country.
I know which choice ill be taking, and when the time is right, people like fitsimmons, mossop et al who can only criticise football will be made to eat their words.
To sum up:
COME ON SYDNEY FC!

well said Aleko.
I am gonna miss the Olympics, SydUtd awaydays etc. cause we always had a laugh when we visited there.
Now with all the emphasis on families, I think the ALeague will be the go for pushing football forward in this country, but the State League will be the place to go for a good away trip/pissup.
Cheers

So get behind it and stop being such a thingy. Well said. The fact that people don't want to try to make it work, and in turn don't want it work, is what has put Australian football down for so many years.
The most important thing is to establish a real football mentality, ensuring the game is accepted by the Australian public as the greatest in the world. The day that happens will be a day of triumph, it's what every true Australian football supporter has always stood up for.

As I've mentioned before, I myself supported Olympic in the NSL and was obviously saddened to see all those founding clubs go. However, we football fans (all of us) have fought and struggled for many years, to see our sport undertake a revolution so that takes its rightful place in the Oz sporting landscape.
Its very dissapointing that none of these non-broadbased clubs are able to partake in this new league, and I mostly blame the media for this. However what's done is done unfortunately, and while this does not mean that ex-NSL fans no longer have to support Olympic, Syd Utd etc. it does mean that we should continue supporting football in Oz - our passion which we have fought so hard for.
If everyone does not get behind the A-League, then it will flop no doubt! And while fans of the state-league clubs might still be upset that their teams are not in the top league and hence are calling for boycotts, then this will not be a good outcome for any football fan.
We owe it to our sport to make it work and as such I think all football fans in Sydney should support Sydney FC together with their state teams if they wish, as it is football in general that will benefit.
Let us not be divided like the 'old guard' but united as football fans and Sydneysiders. The thought of our old clubs' exit is still painful for many, but at least these clubs are still around - it could of been worse, where is parra power today!
At the end of the day, we all love football.....let's show all the other pretenders why we are the greatest code.

I disagree with you, I think alot the 'ethnics' as well as the anglo's and all other races WILL go and support Sydney FC. The change had to happen, clubs that only attract one community will never succeed to a great extent - the extent all football fans want. Now clubs attract an entire area this means, all communities in that area. True there'll be some narrow-minded disgruntled people from the NSL but they are the minority of 'ethnics'. For the most part of it, even the 'ethnics' can appreaciate this new League and Our new club, so people will come and support, especially if they support football in australia. And I reckon in a few years your family will probably willas well.

Well put Aleko,iv'e been going to olympic games for god knows how long, people are winging that were not getting the crowds we were attracting 10 or 15 years ago.A majority of fans attending Olympic, united marconi of the last 15 to 20 years are moving on in life and getting older, they couldn't be bothered going to the games.Because they are no longer in this new league all these older fans who probably haven't turned up to any games in the last 5 years have decided, hey wait a minute lets bag the new league because our team is not in it".50% of my customers are Greek and italian all i hear is the new league will be farked it will never work, but when you ask them have you gone to any of the games in the last 5 years they say NO,ask them why and they tell you i'm getting to old to turn up to games.I'm glad that the nsl teams are not in,you turn up to games and all i'd hear was VRE TO MALAKA,he doesn't know how to play soccer, and abusing each other in greek. To all those who Olympic fans, who iv'e spoken to that want the new league to fail, god help you because if i see you at the fc games,i will hammer you so hard that you'd be embarassed to turn up again. If people get behind the new team then i'm sure it will be a success.

It's silly really, because if you think about the big picture, if the game itself succeeds then 20 years down the track we may have some promotion/relegation system. By supporting the game, the old supporters could ensure their club may one day have a chance to play in the top flight again. If they really cared about the game itself these supporters would come to FC games and make sure the new league is a success.
