I think one of the most crticial issues for the success of Sydney FC will be the state of the playing surface at Aussie stadium. i remember going to see Olympic v Marconi at the SFS a few years back (Nicky Carle scored a cracker on debut as a 15 yo) and the playing surface was diabolical. as anyone who has ever played on a carpet like surface will know, even average players can sometimes look like world beaters. unless sfc play on a decent field, free of thugby league markings and bumps and bare patches, we'll see substandard football, regardless of the players on show. The hierarchy of sfc must ensure that the stadium management provide a proper footbal pitch, or i think many fans will not attend on a regular basis.

The SFS has had a stunning surface for some games in the past (Such as the Olympics) so the groundstaff know what we need. Assuming we sign a deal to play at the SFS for at least 5 years the groundstaff would put the work in to provide us with the best surface possible. At the end of the thugby season the surface will not be the best, but with the late spring sun and a lot of work I would think we could have a good pitch rather qucikly. I really hate the way League & Union cover the ground in paint, advertising and markings. Lets hope the ground staff can match a green paint to the colour of the grass

Surely in this day and age of electronic ad boards and virual projections for TV viewers, painted ads should be a thing of the past.

the curators at the sfs are world class. the paint from the other sports are washed off that night so no worries there.

The pitch at the Solomons game was superb, and that was in October. Basically, the SFS will be fine between October and and the end of the A-League season, but I am worried about August-September, what with two RL games a fornight also being played at this time.
The main thing is to make sure that SFC isn't a second-tier tenant, like Power was at Parramatta, where football-markings were done delibreately faintly so as not to disrupt Eels games. If SFC has equal priority to the Roosters, Rabbitohs and Waratahs (which if it gets decent crowds and corporate backing it should be) then it will get fairer treatment and a better ptich.

Well recently the pitch has been great. I went to the Solomons and Turkey games the pitch looked perfect. If the ground staff can keep it up then it shouldnt be a problem.

sounds troubling...but im sure they will do something about it...and i also think aussie stadium is the right size for sydney fc because thats how much people they will get 30000 if the franchise is popular...
