Tuesday, June 7, 2005 Teddy to become wizard of Oz? West Ham striker Teddy Sheringham could be on his way to Australia to play in the Hyundai A-League. Queensland Roar chief executive Lawrence Oudendyk and coach Miron Bleiberg have admitted that they have been in contact with the ex-England marksman.
Sheringham's former Manchester United strike partner Dwight Yorke recently signed for another of the new league's clubs - Sydney FC.
And it has emerged that the 39-year-old and the Queensland outfit have been negotiating for the past three months.
Bleiberg told the club's website: 'He is one of the best known forwards in the English game and would give us an old head in what is a very young squad.
'We are looking for a target man and English players are best known for their ability to play in this role.'
However, Bleiberg did admit that the cost of taking a player of Sheringham's stature to Australia could pose problems.
He added: 'The fact is that players in England can still command large salaries even in the lower divisions over there.
'We can get a South American player for a fraction of the cost and that has to be a major consideration for us.
'We are looking for a special player but we do not want to break our pay structure in the process as we have a salary cap that we have to stick to.

Yes, I believe every QLD Lions press release. Some teams generate exposure by actually signing big names... others generate it by just talking about it (Hello QLD and Newcastle! )

They signed 31 year-old Macedonian Jurica Siljanoski
Macedonian international Jurica Siljanoski had his first hit out with the Roar squad today in a session with Aberdeen coach Sandy Clark.
31 year-old Siljanoski, who has played 15 games and scored 7 goals for the Macedonian national side, was in positive mood after experiencing the standard of the Roar Hyundai A-League players. “The standard is good and this is something new for me. I’ve been a professional player all my life and I am very confident that I can adapt to any situation. I am still very ambitious and have a desire to reach the top no matter where I am playing,” he said.
The Macedonian striker admitted to having good first impressions of Australian football, particularly the technique of the players. “The technical training was very good and I enjoyed the shooting session. The players here are good and I hope I can impress the coach with the way I play.”
Siljanoski, who has an Australian wife, speaks excellent English and a little Italian so will experience no communication problems during his trials with the club. “Having played in Europe for so long I have developed my English quite well. If I get stuck on a word my wife will always help me out,” he grinned.
Fitness Co-ordinator Tony Ganter will put Siljanoski through his physical tests next week while the rest of the squad has a short break. So far, Ganter is pleased with the build of the player and his says he is in good shape. “He is strong in the right areas and has a good physique for football,” Ganter said. “He looked much better in the second training session and has adapted fairly quickly to the physical nature of the training here,” he added

Sounds like a type of cookie to me. "I'll have two Macedonia cookies and a packet of Bosnians please". I thought they would have gone with an unknown Sth American or a young Korean or something like that. It sounds like Siljanoski's wife just wanted to come home, so he's called the Pussies Roar and offered his services.
