hmm... I hope sooner or later these teams will find their way to the A-league:
- townsville - geelong - cairns - wollongong - coffs? (they do have 70,000 people in that town I'm told) - hobart or launceston - some oceania rep team - the All-Whites (minus overseas players)
The coasties should survive, although I reckon for New Zealand's sake they should replace the Knights with the All-Whites so that their players get a weekly run-out against a higher graded opposition and boost their game. I know this sounds really far off though, and will never happen, but this is probably what will boost their game better than a single professional team in a country of all amateurs.
I've always wondered how Kiwis see teams like this who are based in NZ but never play any other NZ teams in a serious sense. Do they embrace the team?

I heard that Nymben will be getting a team in 2010. They will be called the Green Bud Hackers.

Expand? It has to work first. I got some doubts on whether central coast, brisbane and new zealand will work at all. Also i find it rather hilarious that we have a team from new zealand yet we dont have one from our nations capital. For those who are going to say well canberra cosmos had bad crowd figures etc etc let me remind u about brisbane strikers. When the hell did they ever get good crowd figures? Only once and it was when they played in the 97 grand final also they were not an 'ethnic' club so no excuses. Another thing, how the hell does central coast get a team, u'd think that all the ppl in that region would go for newcastle and in turn we really could of had a team from canberra.
If there is an expansion it must be canberra.

It taken about four years for the MLS (US League) to expand so i don't expect us to expand too soon. You have to take small steps first then start bring in new teams. If we get a hold of the markets that the current sides are in the we will expand, but not until about 3 to 5 years. The first two years we will have the same sides, the earliest expansion i can see is the third season.
When we do bring in new sides i would say it would be these teams: - West Sydney - Geelong - 'Gong - Canberra - Townsville - Gold Coast - Oceania - Melborne (2nd Team) - Hobart - Darwin

Of first concern before expanding should be to get the state leagues sorted out. That way teams can be selected from there that already have a fan base, facilities etc.

well everyone is arguing about wat clubs should get in, i think that they should just make a div 1 or something and have the top 2 teams from div 1 get promoted and make the a league have 10 teams..... and from then on only the bottom a league team get regulated and the top div 1 team get promoted... they would both then have 10 teams..... i think the 12 1st div teams should b: -wollongong -canberra -north queensland (either townsville or cairns, or both) -tasmania (hobart or launceston, or both) -wellington -darwin -geelong -coffs harbour -gold coast -west sydney -melbourne (2nd team) -and wat ever city that has someone rich backing them

Maybe we could a National League under the A-League with those regions plus a side from the 5 major state leagues and one extra side Sydney and team in from the South Island of NZ. i.e these 16 sides -wollongong -canberra -north queensland (either townsville or cairns, or both) -tasmania (hobart or launceston, or both) -wellington -canterbury -darwin -geelong -coffs harbour -gold coast -State league (6): -Sydney (1) -Sydney (2) -Melbourne -Adeliade -Perth -Brisbane
Atleast with this you have some sides with existing fans and the other are regions sides (one team per city). You could have 2 teams go up for the first two years so you have 12 teams in the A-League. You could have teams move up into the National League from the State Leagues. This would also add a contention for the A-League to the State Leagues.

Cost involved to create a second tier national comp, that would not be able to support it self would just mean it would fail. That is why state league standards must be lifted.
