40,000 came to a match against NZ at stadium aus for a game that was not advertised or given any media attention. They had to turn people away as there was not enough security for the crowd I'm just pointing out that recent friendlies have failed to get the public's attention. Iraq, Solomons and Turkey were all played in front of half empty stadiums. Just voicing a bit of concern, that's all.

That's happened in the past as well, but we've never had problems with the qualifier games. There'll be people from allover the country coming here for the game. Can't wait, I'm delaying my european trip for this one game (well two I spose...).

This will sell out for sure - it is the one game that the media give good coverage to, and that people seem to care about.
Four years ago I travelled down to Tardistan, and it seemed that half the crowd were from Sydney.... At least the crowd will be full of people who understand the game, instead of turning up to anything, and at a ground closer to the action (MCG has got to be the worst ground in the world to watch real football)

I'm just pointing out that recent friendlies have failed to get the public's attention. Iraq, Solomons and Turkey were all played in front of half empty stadiums. Just voicing a bit of concern, that's all. Those matches were just friendlies with mostly a second string team. But i was still pleased with the amount of supporters, i think it was descent as there wasnt much advertising. The news that sydney had got the wcq was all over the news this morning and tonight. PPL who are not football fanatics will turn up for this game if a good job is done with advertising and if kewell and viduka play there is no chance of an empty seat. i really cant wait for this game, fuk i hope its the 2nd leg.

I'll probably be going but on recent performances by the Socceroos, especially the defense, I honestly can't see them having a chance against any of the South Americans

WHATEVER ! ! !
Over 2 legs anything can happen. Its ok if we are crap over two legs. We can still win with a freak goal or something like that. Look at iran for example.

Awesome news!! I was not looking forward to having to make the trip to the MCG. This is the first World Cup (probably since 1990) that I feel we have no chance of qualifying. My only hope is that there are some relevations in the Confederations Cup and... oh yeah, Farina is still the coach... we have no chance...

I agree Ned, You will have to put all your league business to one side for that night !!!!! I'm coming along (Have to bring the wife as she's an aussie. United as One ! That's how i works in England (well most of the time!) See you their. Loz "SSS" We have to ensure that for both this match and the solomons match the Socceroos singing contingent is united as one...who gives a fuk if your marinators, cove, bay23boys, green and gold army, fanatics, Victory Union, Uknighted Jets Army...whats important is that we are all in one area to create as much noise as possible. I for one as a Green and Gold Army member and organiser will be pushing to NOT have a Green and Gold Army specific bay, rather 3 or so bays behind the goals allocated as the "Singing area"...there are too many people that hold grudges against the GGArmy and we need to make sure every1 is together.

Lol Lets get all the wives g/f involved at the sydney games. We would be the hottest fans going around. They could wear boob tubes and minnies and put their hair in pigtails. Pom poms and stuff would be good too.

Ned,
Having spoken to the Bay23 organisers I think this is the way to go for all concerned, however i dont think that everyone who has an interest in this will see it the same way.
The reason Fanatics organised to have Bay 23 as an organised area at the last match at the SFS was because thats the area we have always stood, prior to Bay 23, prior to Fanatics etc etc. Jim & I wanted that area to be for the guys who have been going to those matches since the Israel qualifiers many years ago.
