Great f**king article, really stirred up a lot of emotion in me. This article should be published in one of the national papers or NSW papers!!! It deserves to be read it nicely summarises what we've known for years now.
Bloody telegraph, one of the worst papers to have ever existed. Should be ashamed to call them selves a 'news' paper since they are clearly biased and nothing but a propaganda machine. Good for wiping dog shit.

Good to see something positive, once again it comes from one true friend, SBS. I only wish that we had more influence in other media, especially newspapers. All these old farts refuse to look in their own backyard, where they should indeed be looking at. League is a mess and is loosing to AFL and Union. I just hope that Real Football will be a force to reckon with.

I put this on another thread so apologies for not spotting this one, but hey, it's spreading the gospel that counts ;D I also e-mailed the link to a few mates - would encourage others to do the same!

SydneyFCRulz rugby league is hardly a "mess". Just wait till origin and see two sell out games and a potential 3rd (if it's a decider) and then call it a "mess"
Also i don't see a problem with the fact that there's another sydney sporting team. League, union and afl won't be affected by the success of sydney fc, it will be good for sydney sporting culture overall. I'm just bloody sick of all these journalists with chips on their shoulders wanting to knock whatever code they don't support off the block, what do they have to bloody gain from it. I wreckon they should let people support whatever they bloody well want, one code or even all of em.

It is an "event" rather than a sporting fixture. I know heaps of people who go to the origin who would never think of going to a local League game. The only thing that keeps league (and cricket) viable as sports is the UNBELIEVABLE amount of exposure (really, advertising) it gets in the media.

Channel 9 just offered $40mil a year for league's TV rights compared to the $13mil a year they currently get.

AFL
"...The AFL executive met yesterday to set the agenda for tomorrow's meeting of the 16 clubs, at which it will report on the broadcast rights negotiations. The commission will hold talks on the issue next Monday.
The competition chiefs, who secured an unprecedented five-year deal with the News Ltd consortium worth an annual $450 million from 2002[/u], remain concerned that the Seven-Ten partnership could harm the competitive bidding process and lower the price for the next round of rights...."
RUGBY
Oct. 26 2004
The Australian Rugby Union and SANZAR are expected to know tomorrow whether they will hold on to their lucrative funding through News Ltd broadcasting rights.
Since their reapplication six weeks ago, southern hemisphere officials have been nervously waiting for News Ltd to decide over the future of its TV rights deal, which expires at the end of next year.
To make the broadcasting deal more alluring, SANZAR has agreed to the expansion of both the Tri Nations and Super 12 competitions.
News Ltd has held the broadcasting rights since 1996, with its $US555 million ($750m), 10-year deal crucial to the funding of southern hemisphere rugby[/u], in particular Test and Super 12 players' salaries.
this could be wrong but i think its spot on altho i thought Channel 9 and 10 shared the rights for AFL so maybe thats old....
