If the A-leauge becomes the most popular national sporting competion and clubs get too many fans. Should the organisers of the A-leauge have a 2nd division like the rest of the world?. Maybe called the A-leauge 2?. This would create insentive for the bottom teams to get there act together or be relugated?. Maybe some wealthy investors, invest in a Premier leauge club to make it up to A-leauge standards to play in the second division?. If there prepared to loose money for the first few years. But if they are succesful they will collect the benefits.
What do you think?

What do you think? Yes on the basis that there is enough talent and financial stability in a lower division and the support is momentous where you could get 5000 ppl to an average B-League game. If it was too happen, I'da say it's 10-15 years down the track. Personally I don't think it would happen, the population in Australia does not make up the numbers and Australian's like 1st grade sport.

But they say in 10 and 15 years there will be 30 million people living in Australia...Surely that is enough people to support the A-leauge and the a-leauge 2 nd division...
do you think thats enough?

In the short term...no.
The A-League is looking for as many investors as possible to swell the ranks. You're pretty unlikely to pump a few million into a club if there's a one in eight chance that your investment is going to go down the toilet.
Once the League is established, investors are happy and the clubs are on a sound financial footing, then think about it. The financial health of the promoted clubs are also going to have to be watched closely. It's going to take more than a few chook raffles to establish an A-League team.

I agree with Phormic we cant afford to have a 2nd division until the new league has proven to be succesfull and has the support of the Australian Public and all clubs financially sound then we can look into having a 2nd league with relegation and promotion.
possibly have the 2nd division as the old NSL teams that did not make the A-League

It would be a good idea for the future. By the future I mean the long-term future. 15-20 years perhaps. But more importantly for the next 15 years the A-League should attempt to add extra clubs to the current league. For me I'd rather have say 16 teams playing in one national league rather then two 8-team leagues. Thats why I say long term becuase to get so many clubs will take a long time. In fact I dont believe we'll have a second teir of the a-league for the next 30 years.
We could use state league teams to make up this second tier but I'm against that for to reasons. One since the ASA wanted to move away from singular-community based clubs and two because they cant draw the crowds. For a second tier, I believe new clubs should be created.

Put simply... No. Australia is to big as a land mass. The dollars and fans are not there to support it..

YES eventually. It keeps things interesting. If this did happen they should have playoffs between the winners of each state league + Relegated teams. I think it would make teams in A League realise you can't be there just to make up numbers. Lets see if the A League takes off first.

are you serious, wake up, the a league will never get to a standard of average 15000 a game, you are dreaming, lets get real for a second, all players signed to A league are all old NSL players, the standard will still be dreadful people want to see class football etc socceroos vs sth american teams or france not the crap that is here, im not being negative just being realistic

what you dont understand trooper is that the old NSL was doomed to failure due to lack of cash flow, poor marketing etc, a legacy of the incompetant administrations of the past. The new league is hopefully going to be exactly the opposite, yes there will be old NSL players....but only the cream of the crop. 20 players per team, 8 teams. 160 players. The old NSL had anywhere between 30-35 players in a squad(counting the youth graders occasionally blooded) The money will slowly seep in and improvements can be made. Patience is required

Ok as much as I would like to have tis multi division comp. ust a few facts to help out. the 4 most populor sports in Oz (mainstream) are League AFL cricket and Rugby in 1st grade level.. All these competitions have thought above multi divisional comps but none did them.. because its hard enough in the Australian corporate world (especially with the size of the country and small population) to get sponsors..
Sorry dont think it could ever happen..
