Today in Canberra the media announced that the local Belconnen Blue Devils will play Sydney FC on Friday 8 July.
The match is being billed as Dwight Yorke's debut and is meant to be the start of an annual fixture between both clubs.

Sweet! Probably the only SFC match ever to be held within a cab ride from my place!! Looking forward to finally catching up with a few of the lads. I'd advise you all to bring a beanie, it's bloody cold down here right now.

There's snow on the Brindies this morning...dress for arctic conditions you soft sydney residents lol WIN had a report on the match announcement in last night's news. The Blue Devils chairman stated the club's intention to join the A-League and this annual cup is the first stepping stone. Personally I think Belco needs more capital before that can happen...

Yeah it's been bucketing down up there. Bimberi is supposed to get 20cm tonight. Can't see Belco getting a look into the A-league for a good while yet. Unfortunately for the ACT we don't yet have the capital or the numbers (IMHO) for a serious attempt. Maybe 5 to 10 years, once the league is established and other sports lovers get on board.

Agreed, but its good that they're taking the initiative and showing ambition.

True, it'll be great to see the league expand and I hope Canberra gets to be part of it.

Won't be around but you guys should check out a bus to canberra - apparently if you book well enough in advance it's $10 (return I think).

Its at their McKellar ground (I think) - they said they wanted to break the ground record. Realistically we're looking at about 2,000 tops. I've only ever driven past it. It seems new-ish and has a nifty 1,000 seat stand - a bit like Cromer park. Here's the directions for the out of towners: www.bluedevilsfc.com/devils/contacts/mckellarsports.htm
