We lost 4 -3. Germany & Australia should be omitted from tournament as they both have poor defence....you can also add the young socceroos too.

I thought the scoreline flattered the Australians, but I guess thats how we play. It was ALL Skoko. He disappeared somewhat in the second half which let Germany back in, but came back to set up the third goal. Don't know how Muscat can still be in the team or Popovic. Milicevic played well - apart from the penalty which was fairly soft anyway. The German side had FOUR 20 year olds in that side. How about some 20 years olds in the senior squad, eh Frank!? Oh yeah that would take risk wouldn't it? How about putting Elrich on against that frail German defense... right that might take intelligence. Well at least we can score goals.

neither side defended really well. And Frina needs to be taught what two strikers are or shown how Liverpool use a 4-5-1.
Our defense is to poor to play only one dmid in a 5 man midfield.

Worst defending I've ever seen by the boys (now thats saying something!). I couldn't enjoy any of our goals, coz every time the Germans got the ball, I simply expected them to score. Atrocious...The defence is getting worse. For the last couple of years the complaints have centered around our lack of speed. Now we have that, PLUS technical imcompetence to deal with. There were U10s errors out there. How the f**k does a striker get two touches in the 6-yard box off a corner!
Poppa needs to be replaced.... he has lost his ability. He wouldn't have made the errors he made a year ago. Muscat was unimpressive too, and I doubt he is the answer. But even Neill (who I have immense time for) had a shocker today, so who knows.
The next 6 months must be spent fixing this defence. It has to be rebuilt from scratch. Scour the world, look to the A-League, look at youth teams.... I refuse to believe that Australia's depth is so weak that Poppa is our best. I'm sure there are solutions out there, just hope the coach is up to job (oh god, we are f**ked!... get Matic quick).
On a positive, the midfield and front have proven what I was saying before.....we ain't that bad. We created enough chances, especially when u consider that our best 3 creative players of Viduka, Harry and Bresc were out. Get back to a 4-4-2 with Viduka and either Aloisi, Cullina (he's definitely our future) or Archie up front, and fix the defence, and we would be back in biz for this WCQ campaign.

Our back line was crap. Luckily Schwarzer had a blinder in the first fifteen of the 2nd half, saving three shots on goal (one of them while running backwards). That boy has a big reach. Aloisi and Skoko stood out obviously. Skoko in particular played well I thought. Muscat looked like a true tard out there this morning. Kevin, YOU'RE FIRED! I give us a 6 out of 10 and think we'll go down to the sth Americans 2-0.

no serb1, Jurgen Klinsmann (German coach) since he took over has been radically transforming the German national team. Gone are the days of German teams having average ages of like 32, or 33. He's trying to bring in a new squad of players to build on that are young, I know Klose is injured otherwise he'd be a certain starter, and if i remember correctly Worns has retired...
Germany Confed Cup Squad
Goalkeepers: 23-Timo Hildebrand (VfB Stuttgart); 1-Oliver Kahn (Bayern Munich), 12-Jens Lehmann (Arsenal, England)
Defenders: 3-Arne Friedrich (Hertha Berlin), 2-Andreas Hinkel (VfB Stuttgart), 4-Robert Huth (Chelsea, England), 17-Per Mertesacker (Hanover 96), 5-Patrick Owomoyela (Arminia Bielefeld), 21-Vacant
Midfielders: 13-Michael Ballack (Bayern Munich), 18-Tim Borowski (Werder Bremen), 10-Sebastian Deisler (Bayern Munich), 6-Marco Engelhardt (Kaiserslautern), 15-Fabian Ernst (Werder Bremen), 8-Torsten Frings (Bayern Munich), 16-Thomas Hitzlsperger (Aston Villa, England), 19-Bernd Schneider (Bayer Leverkusen), 7-Bastian Schweinsteiger (Bayern Munich)
Forwards: 14-Gerald Asamoah (Schalke 04), 11-Thomas Brdaric (VfL Wolfsburg), 9-Mike Hanke (Schalke 04), 22-Kevin Kuranyi (VfB Stuttgart), 20-Lukas Podolski (Cologne)

I think Hamman is out of favour. Ziege definitely is and should not of been let back into the side for the Euro cup. I don't know why Kehl is not in the side and Metzelder might be worth a go now he is back from long term injury (like Deisler). Worns has not retired he just was not selected. I thought they could use his experience - but its good to see the national team looking to replace him with youth.
I doubt Klose would of played if he was in the side.
When Klinsmann looked to substitute a striker did he take off the more experienced (and pretty much no. 1 German striker at the moment) Kuranyi or the raw, struggling, inexperienced 20 year old? He took of the experienced one and let Podolski get some good experience and rewarded his coach with a goal. Can you imagine Farina ever doing this??
Germany are building their squad for the next World Cup (which they should of started to do after the last World Cup if not before) how they go this tournament is really only important to the press in Germany. I wouldnt be suprised to see Hildebrand in goals in a match during this tournament...
EDIT: Yup Hamann is injured oops. Someone on TWG forum said lets see Germany without three of their top players. Do Klose, Lahm and Hamann count?

u cannot tell me that hamman and ziege dont deserve a place in the team..it cant be that young otherwise they will struggle Explain how they do, when Hamann hasn't played consistantly all season and Ziege nearly helped Moenchengladblach get relegated. As for your question about the 3 players, Lucas Podolski is one of Germany's most highly rated young forwards. Stayed with 1.FC Koeln to help win them promotion to Die Bundesliga. and Arne Friedrich is the captain of Hertha Berlin and has been in the squad for a few years, which you could probably tell if you looked a little harder at the squad you posted for Euro 2004. no idea who mertesacker is though, maybe the poster known as 'Michael' could shed some light on him for us. Also, did anyone tape the game? I forgot all about it after work this morning and went to bed about 4am.
